Christmas Delivery

Yesterday I brought 50 Christmas hats, 4 Christmas preemie sleep sacks and one blanket to Southside for Christmas.

Winter's Coming

Its time to get ready for our first winter delivery. It will be around mid December. We need warm items to bring the babies home in. Our focus will be Newborn Blankets, Sweater sets, Going home outfits and hats.  Please check the Guidelines for yarn types and the "What We Need" section for sizes. We also have some free patterns here and at my blog.

Summer Things

I made a delivery to Southside Hospital last week.  There were over 200 items.  For our next delivery we will be in need of Preemie blankets and burial gowns. Of course we have a need for everything but we didn't have too many preemie blankets this past delivery so they will be a greater need for them. Also, I haven't received any burial garments in a while so they will be in need of those too.

Bunny Hats

I have been making bunny hats for Southside. If you would like to make some I could use a little help.  I used this pattern for the hat. I am using Pound of Love and a size
G-7 hook for the larger ones and Bernat Softee Baby and a size G-6 hook for the smaller ones.  To make the hat with a fold up bring work 11 rows of DC and 1 row sc crochet in the contrasting color.

To make the ears: ch 8, dc in 4th chain from hook and each chain across, ch 2 turn, work 8 DC rows. To decrease for the point of the ear: (row 9) DC in first 2 stitches then work a DC decrease in the next 2 sts, ch 2 turn. Row 10: DC decrease 2 stitches together and fasten off. 
Make 2 white ears and 2 pink or blue ears.  Lay the colored ear on the white ear and single crochet the ears together, I just work the 2 long sides, you don't need to crochet the bottoms of the ears together. Sew on.

Remember hats should be 11"-12" around.

First a few comments on the buttonband for you before you get started. The buttonband is worked up and down the fronts of the sweater for 3 rows. On this sweater I see that I worked 2 sc in the end of each row but sometimes that makes a wavy edge so I do 2sc in one row and 1sc in the next, so its not too tight I go up one size hook for the edging. Also depending on the size of the buttons you will have to adjust how many chain spaces you will need to fit the button. And how many buttons you are using, make the same amount of holes (obviously:).



.Buttonband: work sc up right side of sweater following instructions at the beginning of the pattern. Ch 1 turn, sc in first st, work buttonhole, sc in next. Work down front placing buttonholes accordingly. Ch 1 turn work sc in each sc and chain space up front of sweater.

At top corner put 3sc and work sc around the neckline, put 3sc in corner st, work 3 rows of sc down and up and down the front left side. Put 3sc in bottom corner and sc across bottom edge. Finish off.



Sleeves: join yarn to center stitch at bottom on armhole, DC around.

Work 10 rows total for sleeves

Row11, sc around sleeve.

For row 17 you can sc around, I did the "crab stitch" which
is also called reverse single crochet.

Sleeves-
Attach yarn at middle st under arm.

rows 1-4: Ch 2, DC in each st around, join.

row 5: ch1, sc in each st around, join. finish off.
(I also did reverse crochet for the last sleeve row.)

Back and Neck trim:
Join yarn in the back opening on the left side,
Ch 1, sc up the side, 3sc in corner st,
sc across neckline, 3sc in corner st,
sc in next, chain 3, sc in same end of row.(buttonhole)
sc evenly down right side.
finish off.

Sew button on left side of back opening across
from buttonhole.

row 9-19: slip stitch in next dc, slip stitch to chain 1 space. In chain 1 space: ch 2, dc, ch 1, 2dc.

Work (2dc, ch 1, 2dc) in each chain 1 space around.

row 20: After you join row 19, ch 1, sc in same st and each stitch around. Finish off.

You can work as many rows as you like for the skirt.

Nubby Stitch Preemie Blanket

Size I hook

One skein of I Love This Yarn, I used just about the whole skein.

Pattern uses a multiple of 2 stitches if you want to adjust the size

Ch 60 loosely-

Row 1: (right side) Sc in 2nd chain from hook and each ch across.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st sc, *tr in next sc, sc in next sc, repeat from *

Across.

Row 3: ch 1 turn, sc across.

Repeat rows 2 & 3 until blanket is square. Mine was 18” x 18”.

I counted 29 “nubs” across, so I worked until I had 29 “nubs” to the top.

So if you don’t have a ruler handy, this is an easy way to count.

You can also work it until it is a rectangle that would look nice too, but

You will need more yarn.
